The second day of the Great South Bay Music Festival brought reggae, ska, island vibes, and one of the weekend’s most anticipated performances as Sublime closed out Friday night at Shorefront Park. Reggae Rock Beach Party Day featured music across three stages, giving fans everything from roots reggae and ska to modern island rock before thousands packed the Main Stage for the night’s headliner.

The Main Stage opened with Project Vibe, followed by Florida’s The Ries Brothers, whose blend of rock, reggae, blues, and funk kept the energy building throughout the afternoon. Common Kings delivered a crowd-pleasing sunset set filled with their signature island sound before turning the stage over to Sublime.

The Bandshell/Five Towns College Stage featured performances from IRIEspect, Reggaelar People, Bunktown Falls, and Long Island favorites Oogee Wawa, while the Jambalaya Stage showcased Halfbreeds, Roots Foundation, Mystic Bowie’s Talking Dreads, and the New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble, giving fans plenty of music to discover throughout the day.

As the sun went down, thousands gathered in front of the Main Stage for Sublime, one of the biggest draws of this year’s festival. Fronted by Jakob Nowell, son of the late Bradley Nowell, the band delivered a performance that balanced respect for the original songs while bringing fresh energy to the stage. Throughout the night, the crowd sang nearly every word, turning Shorefront Park into one giant singalong.

The 26-song set covered nearly every era of the band’s catalog, opening with “Date Rape” before rolling through classics including “Wrong Way,” “40oz. to Freedom,” “Smoke Two Joints,” “Garden Grove,” “Ball and Chain,” “Badfish,” “Doin’ Time,” and “What I Got.” Jakob’s vocals paid tribute to his father’s unmistakable style while still making the songs his own, earning enthusiastic reactions from longtime fans and younger concertgoers alike.

The band slowed things down with an acoustic performance of “Pool Shark” before moving into “What For,” “Waiting for My Ruca,” “Until the Sun Explodes,” and “All You Need.” Sublime closed the night with “Santeria,” as fans sang along from beginning to end to cap off the evening.
