Deadheads, mark your calendars. The annual Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies will return to cinemas nationwide on Aug. 8 and 10 with a special screening commemorating the 35th anniversary of the band’s legendary June 17, 1991 concert at Giants Stadium.
Captured with multi-camera footage, the 2026 screening will showcase the Grateful Dead during the group’s final decade of touring. On that humid June night, the group delivered a high-energy set filled with unexpected moments and fan favorites. The lineup moved between classics including “Eyes of the World,” and “Uncle John’s Band,” alongside songs such as “I Need a Miracle,” “Might As Well,” “New Speedway Boogie,” and “China Doll.”
The Dead first performed at Giants Stadium in 1978, then in 1987 and 1989 before their legendary two-night run in 1991. The June 17 performance featured in this year’s screening is one of only two Grateful Dead concerts captured on 48-track tape. This recording allowed audio engineer Jeffrey Norman to create a detailed surround sound mix for the 2-hour, 46-minute experience.
In addition to the footage, the screening will include an exclusive preview of “Shakedown Street” from the upcoming Merriweather 6/30/85 release. The event will feature a special introduction from Grateful Dead Legacy Manager and audio archivist David Lemieux.
Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies is an annual theatrical event that was first launched in 2011. The event give Deadheads the opportunity to get together for screenings of the band’s concert footage and films at theaters across the country.
