Community Block Party Returns to Downtown Albany for its 8th Year

The Palace Theatre in Albany is once again hosting its annual Community Block Party, presented by National Grid, on Saturday, August 15, from noon to 4 P.M. This free, family-friendly event will take place under the marquee at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Pearl Street, offering a fun community celebration. The block party is open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy all the activities before supplies, such as food or giveaways, run out.

The block party is part of the Palace Theatre’s Community Engagement Initiative, which provides free and low-cost arts and educational programs to local children and families. Now in its 8th year, the event has become a beloved tradition, welcoming thousands of attendees to downtown Albany annually.

Moreover, the lineup for this year’s block party offers entertainment and activities for all ages. Enjoy live music from The Ky McClinton Band and the Albany Rock Pit Showcase Band. Kids can have a blast in the kids’ zone, which features face painting, balloon twisting, a bounce house, games, and giveaways. For animal lovers, there will be interactive experiences including pony rides and a petting zoo. Additionally, the event will feature educational activities in collaboration with Ten Broeck Mansion, providing hands-on learning opportunities. You can also get creative with the Albany Center Gallery’s interactive art projects, complete with guided instruction. Plus, don’t miss out on free food, thanks to a partnership with Ted’s Fish Fry. Complimentary hamburgers and hot dogs will be available while supplies last.

The Palace Theatre has been a pillar of Albany’s cultural landscape for eight decades, evolving from a vaudeville and film venue in 1931 to a nonprofit performing arts center. After reopening in 1984, the Palace has continued to enrich the Capital Region with world-class entertainment, free arts education, and community-focused initiatives. With over $3.5 million in ticket sales and 150,000 patrons annually, the Palace remains a hub for economic and cultural development in the area.
