The Empire State Plaza is hosting two free concert series on Wednesdays this summer, giving downtown Albany a midweek music boost. With performances at lunch and again after 5 p.m., the full-day schedule invites visitors to make a day of it.

Held alongside the Empire State Plaza Farmers’ Market, the Lunchtime at the Plaza Series runs from noon to 1:30 p.m on Wednesdays. There, the weekly program gives the lunch crowd a live soundtrack, with music set alongside local vendors and food trucks.
The Empire State Plaza summer concert series opened early June with performances from Cool Universe, Kortnee Simmons and Soul Provider Band. Looking ahead on June 24, Caribbean Day will deliver the vibrant sounds of steel pan, reggae and calypso.
After that, the lineup continues with Flame on July 8, Veterans Appreciation Day on July 15, Dominant 5 Brass Quintet on July 22 and Deb Zep on July 29. Finally, Belleville Swing will perform Aug. 5 before Slingshot Funk Band closes the lunchtime series Aug. 12.

Then, from 5 to 8:30 p.m, the Plaza will shift into evening concert mode with the Capital Concert Series. The four-week Wednesday night series begins June 24 with Kansas, one of classic rock’s most recognizable bands. Joining them on stage is Muscle Shoals, who will then pay tribute to Southern rock.

Later in the series on July 8, dancehall artist Ding Dong and Anthem Band will bring dancehall and reggae to the bill. Then, the July 15 show will feature Lawrence, whose music blends sharp pop hooks with soul and funk influences. Finally, hip-hop legend Ghostface Killah will headline the closing show on July 22.
