In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, non-profit Salt Lick Incubator has announced a new series titled “Songs of U.S.” The series will see live performances and conversations that have contributed to American pop culture and tradition.

The organization was founded by Roger Brown and Liza Levy. The organization helps new musicians through grants, creative development, and collaborating with media platforms. Famous artists such as Jon Batiste, Alison Brown, and Charlie Puth have joined the mission over the last few years.
The series will feature artistic conversations and analytical takes on works by different writers. Some names include Bob Dylan, Beyoncé, Bill Withers, Roberta Flack, John Denver, and more influential figures in American culture.

Cover performances and reimaginations of folk, country, and soul songs fill the catalogue for the series. Joy Oladokun will cover “Ain’t No Sunshine” from Bill Withers. Mickey Guyton will perform country classic “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” Soul hit “Killing Me Softly With His Song” will be reimagined by Brittney Spencer.
Other notable names will be a part of the series, including Linda Perry, Mickey Guyton, Tiny Habits, and Grace Potter. The series is a collaborative effort to lift unheard voices, revisit music that has defined the country, and reassess conventions of American culture.
Talking about the impact of the series, Brown pointed out that American music has had great impact around the world. “As we close the chapter on the last 250 years of American history in this period of enormous discord and debate about who we are and want to be, we asked musicians from all walks of life to reinterpret a song from the canon of great American music.”

The Queen of Christian Pop, Amy Grant, will be a part of the first session premiering June 8. She expressed great enjoyment for the project. “I loved being part of a project that makes room for all of that. These songs carry history, but they also keep evolving as each new voice brings their own experience and humanity to them.”
After the premiere, the Salt Lick Incubator YouTube channel will post content throughout the summer. This will include the Songs of U.S. series, spotlight on new artists, and special content for the entire week of Fourth of July, hosted by country singer Mickey Guyton.
