Queens rapper Rome Streetz’s new single “Cocaine Coltraine” is hitting the airwaves, a must-listen for any jazz hip-hop fan. The single comes from his upcoming album, Sock It To My Pocket, out on July 17.
Rome Streetz originally participated in open mic battles on 42nd Street. Since then, he has become a force to be reckoned with in the rap game. With five studio albums and over 100 million streams, his rise to the top is hard to ignore.
So far, his career has led him to collaborations with some of the best hip-hop artists out there. He’s been able to work with the likes of Method Man and The Game, masters of their craft. He is currently under Griselda Records, where he collaborated with founder and fellow rapper Benny the Butcher.

The song’s title is a play on famous saxophonist John Coltrane, who is paid homage to through the jazz infusion. Every verse sees Rome putting himself above fellow rappers, with word play that possibly derives from his time in mic battles. The saxophone is hard to ignore, mean-mugging in its delivery.
References to notable figures are in the lyrics and video, including athletes and musicians. He compares himself to some of the greats and referencing their work. He mentions rapper Nas and his album Illmatic, compares his success to legendary football star Barry Sanders, and calls himself a Black Mick Jagger with swagger.
The recognizable New York City aesthetic is a big feature of the music video. He raps behind a graffiti backdrop, dressed in a classic New York Yankees brim, and making nods to Canal Street’s reputation. At its core, it looks and feels very New York.

Great anticipation surrounds the release of Sock It To My Pocket, marking his sixth studio album release in three years. The album is releasing under Mass Appeal Records, owned by East Coast rap legend Nas. This will be Rome Streetz’s first solo album under Mass Appeal.
Rome Streetz recently finished a European tour that saw him make 12 stops in different cities, including his birthplace London. This summer, he will be going on tour across the country, making another 12 stops within North America.
