The live orchestral event follows the documentary Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool, transforming it into an immersive performance experience. Defined by reinvention, Miles Davis never boxed himself into a single identity, but instead allowed the trumpet to evolve alongside him. The acclaimed documentary showcases the pure force a singular vision can have on the evolution of music.

Over the course of his career, Miles Davis earned eight Grammy Awards, not only officially recognizing his talent but solidifying his place as one of the most influential figures in modern music. A man of great talent and style, Miles Davis graced audiences with beautiful sound and an equally striking sense of presence.

Featuring Miles’ original, isolated trumpet performances alongside new orchestrations, the event invites audiences to his centennial while experiencing the genius of jazz in an entirely new way. Marking the 100th anniversary of Miles Davis birth, the performance not only honors his legacy but places it within a venue defined by the same spirit. Housed in a 100-year-old former sawdust factory in Williamsburg, National Sawdust provides an intimate but fitting backdrop for the performance. Film excerpts and live performance interlock in real time to create a cinematic concert experience that centers Miles Davis, expanding and translating his trumpet voice through the power of a full orchestra.

The celebration premieres May 26 at National Sawdust, with doors at 7:00 p.m. and the performance beginning at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available now for the premiere here.

Honoring an artist of such rare talent, the Davis Estate and Reservoir celebrate Miles Davis as a figure whose influence remains unmatched. Following the National Sawdust premiere, The Voice of Miles will continue with additional configurations of the show, with presentations to be announced soon.
