Rochester native Mikaela Davis, a cosmic-country artist, has announced the release of her single “(Looking Through) Rose Colored Glasses,” accompanied by an exciting music video. Davis also looks forward to the release of her full album, Graceland Way, and to a summer tour beginning in April.

Davis’s single “(Looking Through) Rose Colored Glasses” features Madison Cunninham and Tim Heidecker and opens with ecstatic harp glissandos, and follows the story of feeling unstable after being left by a lover. Her lyrics, “Throwing pennies in an empty foundation/Rainbows in the dark/Pulling Petals from a dying flower/ A sudden change of heart,” connect with the listener on a deeper level as the dark western tones and harmony create a truly unique sound.
Along with the release of her single, Davis additionally released a music video, which is available to watch here. The music video features Madison Cunningham and Tim Heidecker.
The song provides insight into her album Graceland Way. The album explores a fragile humanity-defining balance of light and dark, grace and struggle, rose and thorn, and the mystical power found in between. The album is also the debut of the Davis-Shannon songwriting partnership. John Lee Shannon is Davis’s guitarist who has been influential in the making of the album alongside Dan Horne, producer and bassist.

In recalling the making of the Graceland Way album, Davis commented, “The songs were written from our personal experience, but together they tell the arc of humanity. The album tells the story of a character that any listener can identify with.”
Notable songs that are included in the album are “11:11,” which explores magic and mysticism, “Wild Flower,” which examines surrendering to the universe, and “Starlight Tonite” which “explores a cautionary tale about corporate greed taking us past the point of no return.”
The full album will be released on April 24th through Kill Rock Stars. Listen to “(Looking Through) Rose Colored Glasses” below to get a sneak peek.
In addition, Davis’s spring tour will begin April 9th and continue through September 6th. The tour includes two New York shows, the first in Rochester on May 13th and the second in Brooklyn July 20th. More information and tickets can be found on Mikaela Davis’s website.
