The Bad Plus Add New York Dates to Farewell Tour as Landmark Career Comes to a Close

After more than 25 years of redefining the boundaries of modern jazz, The Bad Plus have announced the final chapter of their career, and New York fans are finally getting multiple chances to say goodbye.

Founding members Reid Anderson (bass) and Dave King (drums) have confirmed that 2026 will mark the end of The Bad Plus, bringing one of the most influential and genre-defying jazz ensembles of the past quarter century to a close. The band has now added additional dates to its farewell tour, including several long-awaited New York performances.

The current iteration of The Bad Plus, featuring Anderson and King alongside Ben Monder (guitar) and Chris Speed(saxophone), will begin the North American farewell run with a two-night stand in Seattle on April 21–22, before heading east for a string of headline dates and festival appearances through late June.

New York highlights include a June 19 performance at Sony Hall in New York City, followed by a June 23 stop at The Egg in Albany, a June 24 appearance as part of the Rochester International Jazz Festival, and a final New York performance on June 27 at The Mill in Westport, which will serve as the band’s final show of the tour.

Since forming in 2000, The Bad Plus have built a singular legacy by challenging expectations of what a jazz band could be; blending improvisation, rock energy, pop deconstruction, and fearless experimentation into a sound that was entirely their own. Across multiple lineups and eras, the group remained a creative force, earning widespread critical acclaim and a fiercely loyal following.

“The Bad Plus has been a band for 26 years, As we enter into year 27 — after a great deal of soul searching and consideration — we have decided to bring this chapter to a close. 2026 will be the final year of The Bad Plus. We share this news with heavy hearts, but also with great pride in what we have accomplished.”

Anderson and King

In addition to the core farewell tour, Anderson and King will also reunite with Craig Taborn and Chris Potter for a special parallel project paying homage to Keith Jarrett’s legendary American Quartet. That project will tour North America and Europe beginning in March, offering a distinct and reverent exploration of Jarrett’s groundbreaking repertoire while continuing the spirit of risk and improvisational dialogue that has always defined The Bad Plus.

For New York jazz fans, these upcoming shows represent a rare and meaningful opportunity — not just to hear one of the most important groups in improvised music one last time, but to celebrate a band that reshaped the modern jazz landscape on its own terms.
