NYC’s Ecce Shnak Re-Envisions “Katy’s Wart” With Dual Music Videos

New York City-based outfit Ecce Shnak released two music videos for “Katy’s Wart” on Thursday, Jan. 16, re-envisioning a hidden gem from their 2019 album Joke Oso.

The visceral tale of justice appears as both a three-minute “Animated Music Feelm Version” and an immersive ten-minute “Extended Feelm Version” featuring animation by Titmouse Productions.

Ecce Shnak consists of David Roush (composer, bass, vocals), Bella Komodromos (vocals), Chris Krasnow (guitar), Gannon Ferrell (guitar) and Henry Buchanan-Vaughn (drums). The band blends art rock ornateness, prog-infused punk and chamber pop with experimental elements, creating music that Big Takeover Magazine described as having “pop infectiousness, classical grace, and even hardcore aggression all working in harmony.”

The videos tell a surreal narrative centered on a well-dressed stalker who meets his end at the hands of five purple goddesses of righteous vengeance. Directed by Hollye Bynum, Sam Owens and the band’s David Roush, the extended version reveals the dramatic backstory featuring heroic twin sisters played by Rachael Rae Robertson and Rebecca Robertson, who fend off the antagonist with help from otherworldly agents of chaotic justice.

The track serves as a bridge toward the band’s full-length album Dandy Variances, out later this year via Records. Originally appearing as “Dingleberry IV, Finale: Katy’s Wart” on Joke Oso, the song receives new life through high-fidelity animation that transforms it into a definitive piece of Ecce Shnak lore.

“Katy’s Wart” was written and composed by David Roush, with sound engineering by Jeff Lucci at the Art Farm in New York, mixed by Bryce Goggin and mastered by Fred Kevorkian.
