Darren DeVivo Makes the Move from WFUV to WKZE

Legendary radio personality Darren DeVivo will soon be joining the Hudson Valley-based radio station WKZE in a move that strengthens independent radio in a growing regional market.

DeVivo has logged more than four decades of air-time as a DJ with another notable local radio outlet, the Bronx-based WFUV. He is taking over Friday nights at KZE and will debut on the airwaves emanating from Red Hook at 7 p.m. Nov. 14.

DeVivo, for nearly 42 years, has been a trusted and familiar voice on New York radio. His signature mix of insight, musical depth and passion for storytelling, combined with KZE’s eclectic, handpicked, AAA and community-focused music programming will push programming into a new dimension for the station’s listeners across the Hudson Valley in NY, Berkshire Mountains in Western Massachusetts, Connecticut’s Litchfield Hills, and beyond.

“I spent my entire adult life discovering, learning and developing an appreciation for a variety of music – whether it’s specific artists, songs, albums or entire genres,” he said. “I did this at WFUV in New York City over the course of nearly 42 years. Along the way, I shared that music with so many radio friends. Now, it’s a new adventure in a new home.”

To launch his debut on KZE, during his first hour on the air, DeVivo will hold his official “WFUV Goodbye Show.” He was not afforded this opportunity upon separation from his longtime broadcast home.

“Darren DeVivo is a true radio legend,” noted KZE co-owner Katie Berghorn. “His history, taste and warmth as a broadcaster make him a perfect fit for KZE’s mission—to deliver music with heart and soul, free from corporate playlists. We couldn’t be prouder to welcome him to the family.”

Under new ownership for the first time in 20 years, WKZE is rapidly expanding its reach and impact by attracting top talent, exploring additional signal acquisitions, and presenting unique, locally-focused programming to its listening audience across three states. The station remains fiercely independent under its new ownership. Listeners can tune in live on 98.1 FM in the Hudson Valley or stream worldwide at 981KZE.com
