In Focus: Cypress Hill’s Dank Daze of Summer Tour Was All Haze at ArtPark

On Tuesday, August 19, Cypress Hill headlined the Dank Daze of Summer tour at the en plein air culture center, Lewiston ArtPark. Celebrating 90’s hip hop party culture with dancing, drinks and natural haze with hip hop groups: The Pharcyde, Lupe Fiasco, and Atmosphere.

Despite an evening of rain, the entire venue was filled with a diverse crowd. Ranging in ethnicity, gender and age but sharing the common denominator of loving 90’s hip hop. Each opening act uniquely had their own style and yet simultaneously complimented each other. Carefully curating acts from different regions of the United States because each coast is historically known for bringing their own musical flare to the genre. Cherry picking The Pharcyde from L.A., Lupe Fiasco from Chicago, and Atmosphere from Minnesota.

Undoubtedly, Cypress Hill transcended timelessness with a welcoming party environment. The band still embodies their unique voice of: Spanish culture, rock, metal, jazz and hip hop. The evening included all of their best angsty hits from the 90s: “I Want To Get High,” “A to The K,” “We Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That,” “How I Could Just Kill a Man,” “Tequila Sunrise,” “Rock Superstar” and ended off with the hit “Jump Around.” On stage the group of four carried passion, charisma, and an engaging energy as they incorporated call and response and requested action from the crowd.

Altogether Cypress Hill’s Dank Daze of Summer Tour was a high energy, communal party. Bringing to town an evening of respite, nostalgia and togetherness as individuals reminisced.
