Burlington music venue Nectar’s has officially closed after over 50 years of hosting live music and entertainment.

A beloved fixture in the music scene of Burlington, Vermont, Nectar’s hosted thousands of artists from Phish to Grace Potter, and attracted crowds from across the region over the venue’s decades-long run.
News of the iconic venue’s impending closure first came on May 8 in a post shared to its Instagram page.
The post cited the Main Street construction project the area is currently undergoing as the root cause behind the closure. The post also shared that reduced foot traffic and public safety concerns were other compounding factors which caused the small, independent venue to struggle to survive and ultimately contributed to its closure.
Nectar’s closing comes just three years after new owner ElmThreeProductions founder Edward Maier took over the venue with hopes to preserve Nectar’s longstanding and update the venue’s technological capabilities.
Despite these improvement goals, Nectar’s announced its official closure on July 30 in a post shared to Instagram.
Though Nectar’s will no longer be occupying its soul-shaping spot at 188 Main Street, the Nectar’s team emphasized in its Instagram posts that they are hopeful in cultivating a new course for the venue in the future to continue its legendary legacy.
