Local Artists Take Over Hudson Valley Hub

On Friday, July 11, local music in the Hudson Valley made its voice heard at Newburgh Brewing Company. Every other month, local band The Lot puts on a show at Newburgh Brewing, with the help of other talented artists from the region. Along with The Lot, Friday’s bill also featured local artists Annabxlle, Storm the Valley, and Prize Fighter, making for a plethora of music for all to enjoy.

Newburgh Brewing Company is a local staple known for its good food, craft beers, and lively entertainment. The taproom, located on the second floor, overlooks the Hudson River. With a stage and open floor, it’s the perfect atmosphere for a good night of music.

Opening artist Annabxlle originates from the Hudson Valley and is now dually based in New York and Nashville. Accompanied by her four piece band, her set included originals, sneak peeks of unreleased songs, and covers of award-winning artists such as Paramore, Olivia Rodrigo, and Chappell Roan. Her lively music set the tone for the night, and the set was closed out with the iconic guitar solo from “Freebird.” Annabxlle is set to release new music soon.

Headlining band The Lot was celebrating the release of their new EP, Life With Her, which debuted on July 4. The EP features some of their most popular songs to date, with instrument-heavy soft rock taking inspiration from artists like John Mayer. The band was also celebrating their recent name change. Formerly known as John Newhall Band (named after the front man who was previously a solo artist), they changed their name to be more representative of the band and its members as a whole.

The Lot’s set included the majority of their new EP, along with old favorites and unreleased songs (as well as a rendition of “Happy Birthday,” sung by the entire taproom, for the guitarist’s mother). A cover of “Southbound” by the Allman Brothers Band is a staple for The Lot, and a favorite among audience members. They closed out their set with one last song from Life With Her, “Late Night Whispers,” a slow piano ballad with building drums, rounded out with an intense guitar solo.

Storm the Valley brought the heat with fiery screamo edition covers of pop-punk staples from Green Day, Blink-182, and Nirvana. Luckily, Newburgh Brewing’s taproom has room for moshing, and the audience did not disappoint. The band also brought up guest singers and members from the audience, making for an engaging set.

The pop-punk energy continued with original music from Prize Fighter, a three piece band from Orange County. With catchy hooks and heartfelt lyrics about topics like fatherhood, the band serves as a reminder that pop-punk music is still alive and well, and that it was never a phase, Mom.
