On Saturday, June 28, Trombone Shorty returned to the Rochester International Jazz Festival for the ninth time. The natural born showman wowed the audience with his charm, musical talent and his continuous energy, ending the nine-day festival with an energetic, high vibe party that concertgoers will not soon forget.

Without a doubt, musical prodigy Trombone Shorty has been coined a favorite of the Rochester International Jazz Festival and it is obvious why. His passion for what he does is contagious and can be felt on a cellular level. Not just because of his performance but how he interacts with the crowd. He was quick to pick up a cell phone from an audience member and bring it onto the stage to record the show live. He pointed at the crowd and young girls wept as he looked into their direction. Woman were camped at the barricade for four hours to get prime real estate, gushing over the opportunity.
Admittedly, it was an evening of high vibes, excitement and pride. Dressed in their Sunday best, a classy crowd filled the field to the point of overflowing emotion. They were excited for an amazing event but extremely surprised as Trombone Shorty led the band in a Mardi Gras parade around the field. Playing to the tune of “When The Saints Go Marching In,” everyone stopped and looked around, aspiring to catch a closer glimpse of the band.

Unfortunately the show had to eventually end. After two hours of infectious grooves, Trombone Shorty ended the show with the message, “Rochester, you’ve captured my heart! It’s more than just a show; it’s a feeling of being truly welcomed and loved. Thank you for everything.”
