Hudson Valley Symphony Bids Farewell with Season Finale Concert in Beacon

The Hudson Valley Symphony Orchestra will present its Season Finale concert, Elgar’s Friends & Ravel at 150, on May 10 at Seeger Theater in Beacon High School.

Led by Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor André Raphel, the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. It promises a night of dazzling music celebrating both the past and future of symphonic performance.

The evening will spotlight the 150th birthday of French composer Maurice Ravel with his enchanting Mother Goose Suite. Also on the program are John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine and Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, a musical tribute to Elgar’s closest friends. Raphel shared that the program captures the spirit of renewal and honors the traditions that shaped orchestral music.

Cellist William Suh, winner of the 2023 HVSO String Competition, will be the featured soloist. Suh will perform Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1, a piece that showcases both technical mastery and emotional depth. A highly decorated young artist, Suh is an Artist Diploma candidate at The Juilliard School and has performed around the world.

Founded in 1932, the Hudson Valley Symphony Orchestra has a long tradition of bringing exceptional music to the region. Now self-managed, the orchestra continues to thrive under Raphel’s artistic leadership. The May 10 finale marks the conclusion of the HVSO’s “Season of Renewal,” inviting the community to celebrate a memorable year of music.
