Asking Alexandria rolls through Syracuse

Adrenaline is one word that comes to mind when you hear Asking Alexandria, and they certainly showed why when they brought their talent to Sharkey’s in Syracuse on Saturday, April 26.

The British metalcore band known for their heavy and melodic sound, blended together a mix of new style with a clash of nostalgic throwbacks. The band merged songs of fast pace, high energy heart-racing metal with a mix of slower heartfelt vocal masterpieces.

Their hit song “Moving On” which peaked at No. 6 at Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs in 2014, had fans singing along to every word. It was clear that they had exceeded the crowd’s expectations. Supporting the band was Ontario native Royale Lynn who wowed the crowd with her ceiling-scraping vocals and intense energy.

Royale Lynn brought a mix of rock, country, and metal to the stage and the fans were intrigued throughout. Claiming to gain her inspiration from artists such as Avril Lavigne and Breaking Benjamin, it was obvious that she knew how to blend together the perfect combination of different styles that makes her music so unique.

Following Royale Lynn’s performance was American rock band “From ashes to New” from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The band showed up with a blend of hard rock, hip-hop, and metal as pyrotechnics lit up the stage, enticing the crowd. Their lyrics symbolize themes of hardship, liberation, and overcoming adversity. It quickly became apparent that the fans could relate as their hands were in the air singing along. Led by lead singer Danny Case, “From Ashes To New” has achieved great success with singles like “Through It All”, “Crazy”, and “Panic”, which reached the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts.

The cold temperatures and howling wind didn’t stop the loyal fans of Syracuse from coming out to enjoy the stellar perfomances Saturday. With each supporting act crowds grew larger, eager to see the highly anticipated headliner; Asking Alexandria. From crowd surfers, to tailgaters, to die-hard fans with their faces painted, it becomes apparent that the show will easily be remembered for years to come for central New York natives who attended.

Asking Alexandria closed out the night with a powerful performance of their song ” Alone In A Room”. The band continues their tour in Lexington, Kentucky on Monday followed by performanes in Indiana and Wisconsin.
