For the first time ever, Pocket Bandits are bringing their fierce sound to Syracuse, hitting the stage at Funk ‘n Waffles on April 19 alongside local jam powerhouse Pop Culture.

Ithaca’s Pocket Bandits put a fresh spin on the classic organ trio, proving that less really can be more. With guitarist Joe Massa, drummer Simon Bjarning, and keyboardist Sam Lupowitz at the ready, their setup is simple. However their sound is anything but. The trio locks in like a full band, delivering powerful grooves and rich textures that fill the room.
Known for their original compositions, the Bandits also sprinkle in unexpected covers during their live sets. Their performances align with their mission of connecting with audiences and keeping the dance floor active. They’re excited to do this for the first time in Syracuse, especially at the iconic Funk ‘n Waffles venue.
“There was a sense when we started this that it was kind of a weird, experimental project,” said Lupowitz. He then explained that audiences around the region truly resonated with their sound. “Having that kind of reception has made us hungry to spread the word, and Funk ‘n Waffles has become such a standout venue in Syracuse, we’re stoked to hit their stage and share the night with our new friends in Pop Culture,” he notes.

The Pocket Bandits recently released their album Nine by Pocket Bandits with support from the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County in January. This new addition to their musical repertoire has brought intense energy to their live sets. “Knowing there is an ‘album version’ gives extra confidence, makes us take some new liberties and risks, and overall gives the tunes an extra bit of fire that makes them feel different to play than our newer material,” explains Lupowitz
