Friedman’s new EP features James Chrisman from Sister and CIAO MALZ and Felix Walworth from Florist and Told Slant. In addition to “New Thing,” Friedman has released “Flowers Fell” and “Photo Booth” from her debut album. With singles reflecting on past relationships and a voice reminiscent of singers like Phoebe Bridgers, Friedman’s album and title track is not a single to miss.

“New Thing is a conduit for emotions too frenetic to hold on your own. This record is a collection of the first songs I’ve ever written, after many years of orbiting the music world but denying myself my own musicianship,” Friedman said. “Many of these tracks were born of anxiety – from my turning to a guitar to externalize (and organize) a sense of chaos that otherwise felt trapped inside me.”

The debut EP is an unsuspected creation by Friedman, Chisman and Walworth during the winter of 2024, as the trio, including Ryan Cox of Club Aqua and Malia DelaCruz of CIAO MALZ, approached Friedman’s sound with an open and fluid concept, letting Friedman explore and improvise in a new setting. “New Thing” is a sonically deep and layered debut album that travels with Friedman through her life experiences with a raw and open-heartedness, inspired by artists like Adrianne Lenker, Squirrel Flower and Babehoven

Throughout the spring, Friedman will perform throughout New York City to share her debut EP. Friedman will perform at Sounds of Brazils in Manhattan on April 24 and Union Pool in Brooklyn on May 11.
