Four Dead Kings is a rising rock band formed in 2024, bringing a bold and inventive sound to Albany’s music scene. Featuring Greg Myers on vocals and rhythm guitar, Eric Capron on lead guitar, David White on bass, and Randy Wharton on drums, the band thrives on delivering powerful performances. Their 2024 debut album has already made a strong impression, highlighting their impressive guitar work, and commanding vocals. With their sights set on releasing original and distinctive music throughout 2025 and beyond, Four Dead Kings are crafting a sound that is both electrifying and innovative.

Adequate Phil vs Murder In Rue Morgue

Adequate Phil is a genre-blending band from Troy, weaving together folk-inspired melodies with a trippy, psychedelic edge. Drawing influence from popular psych and fusion hip-hop acts, they bring their unique twist to the mix, creating a sound that is both experimental and immersive. Their latest 2024 album, Maxxine’s Van Date, stays true to their signature sound, offering a mesmerizing journey that pushes the boundaries. With a style that defies easy categorization, Adequate Phil offers a fresh take on modern psychedelia, making each performance an unpredictable experience.

Murder in Rue Morgue is a high-energy metal band from Central New York, known for their relentless pace and powerful sound. With a fresh addition to the lineup, new vocalist Joe Macri joins guitarists and vocalists Cj Carr and Dan Ouimette, bassist John Wolff, and drummer Matt Biss to create a compelling and intense performance. Their music blends intense vocals with melodic choruses, crafting a unique contrast that drives their explosive sound. Murder in Rue Morgue delivers an adrenaline-pumping experience that keeps listeners on the edge.

Elephant Back vs What? 

Elephant Back is a genre-crossing duo formed in 2020 during a period of change, which influenced the strength and resilience woven into their music. Comprised of Dave and Sarah, the band blends various styles to create songs that resonate with everyone. In 2023, they released two distinct records, which can stand on their own as unique works or be experienced together for a fuller artistic journey. With their strong drive, Elephant Back describes themselves as a “freight train that will not stop,” pushing boundaries with every note. 

What? is a versatile band from the Hudson Valley, formed in 2016 by college students, Ryan Perrone and Dan Steen. By graduation in 2020, WHAT? had gained new members, and now included Ryan Perrone on trombone, trumpet, keyboards, and lead vocals; Dan Steen on guitar; Jared Nelson on guitar and keyboards; Jeremiah Joseph Mahoney VI on bass; Alex Endres on drums; and Owen Moore on tenor and baritone saxophone. Their 2022 album Lavender Lounge highlights the band’s finest instrumentation, blending jazz fusion and a distinctive brass sound into an energetic, multi-genre style.

Free Music Party vs PEAK

Formed in Buffalo in 2017, Free Music Party is an electrifying group combining Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, and other genres into an energetic and spirited performances. With Eddy Blanco and Alex Live on vocals, producer and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Spears, DJ and producer DJ Apollo, and co-founders Max Cambria and Kay Prix, the band has carved out a unique space in the music scene. Their diverse sound and enthralling stage presence ensures that every performance is an unforgettable experience. 

PEAK is a boundary-pushing band from Brooklyn, formed in 2016 by guitarist Jeremy Hillard. After releasing his first album in 2018, the band’s lineup expanded in 2019 with the addition of Kito Bovenschulte on drums, Josh T. Carter on bass, and Johnny Young on keys. Together, they brought their diverse experiences and fresh ideas to the table, crafting a sound that blends psychedelic, indie, and funk influences. Known for their innovative arrangements, PEAK’s music continues to push boundaries with each release.

Pat Tato & The Baked Potatoes vs Zorbas trio

Pat Tato & The Baked Potatoes bring funk, rock, reggae, and ska to the stage straight from Syracuse. Fronted by singer-songwriter Pat Tato, this electrifying project delivers music as creative as its name, with The Baked Potatoes providing a powerhouse backing band. The band pairs tight musicianship with lyrics that, in Pat’s own words, are “specific & ambitious.” Their sound mixes smooth melodies with punchy rhythms and reggae energy, creating an irresistible groove. Pat Tato & The Baked Potatoes bring a unique sound that keeps audiences coming back for more.

The Zorbas Trio is a musical ensemble from Saratoga, comprised of siblings Callista, Demetra, and John Zorbas. This family band seamlessly blends jazz, rock, alternative, classical, and other genres to create a distinctive sound. Performing original compositions and reimagined covers, The Zorbas Trio has already garnered industry recognition with an Eddie Award nomination. Their musical chemistry shines through in their performances as they work on their highly anticipated debut album, promising to showcase the full spectrum of their diverse artistic vision.

TV DOCTORS vs Not Robots

TV Doctors, an innovative band from upstate New York, is composed of experienced artists who came together with a shared passion for experimenting with sound. Their musical journey has led them to explore a rich tapestry of genres, including psychedelic rock, funk, jazz, and progressive. This broad mix of styles allows them to create a unique and captivating sound that engages listeners eager to expand their musical tastes. TV Doctors have carved out a distinctive space in the music scene through their inventive approach and collaborative spirit. They are consistently pushing the boundaries of what music can be.

Not Robots is an alternative rock band with deep roots in the local music scene, where its members, Mike Chandler, Adrian Stinger, Ryan Eastman, and Brandon Smith, nearly missed each other or briefly crossed paths before officially forming in 2016. Despite the pandemic delaying their debut album, the band recorded it during quarantine and released it in July 2021. After the departure of the founding guitarist, Brandon Smith stepped in to solidify the lineup. In October 2024, they followed up with their second EP, Poltergeist, continuing to evolve their sound with every release.

Brass Machine vs Growl Bear

The Brass Machine, originating from Buffalo, is a popular act on the festival circuit, led by “Kidd” Kyle Yagielski. Growl Bear is a Rochester-based band blending alternative country, Americana, and folk rock into a distinctive and authentic sound. Founded by guitarist and vocalist Jeremy Button, the band features Stewart Atkin on drums and vocals, TJ Beyer on guitar and vocals, Brendan Devlin on bass and vocals, and Josh Gregg on fiddle, mandolin, and electric tenor banjo. Their debut album, The Dream, was released in 2022, showcasing their mix of originals and covers. With an undeniable passion for storytelling, Growl Bear brings an authentic energy to every performance.

Nubble vs Lila Wilde

Nubble is an alternative folk band based in Saranac Lake in the breathtaking Adirondack Mountains. Based in Brooklyn, Lila’s performances are mesmerizing, radiating glamour, passion, and an undeniable spark. From euphoric anthems to moody, late-night grooves, she creates dance music for every emotion. With every beat, she crafts a sound that feels nostalgic and entirely new.

Strange Weather vs Sons Of Eden

Strange Weather is a Brooklyn-based experimental pop collective led by Sean Brennan, featuring a constantly evolving lineup of talented musicians, including Callie Brennan, Davis Rowan, Paul Peglar, and many others. Their sound merges dreamy, atmospheric instrumentation with heartfelt lyricism to create hypnotic musical experiences. Living with Choroideremia, a genetic eye condition that causes progressive vision loss, Brennan brings a unique perspective to his compositions, pushing musical boundaries while keeping his work deeply personal.

Based in Albany, Sons of Eden is a band that defies conventional genre boundaries. Fueled by an unwavering passion for music, they create a unique sound that pushes the limits of creativity and expression. Each performance is a testament to their dedication to innovation, making them a dynamic force in the music scene. With a mission to challenge the norms and bring fresh, exhilarating experiences to their audience, Sons of Eden continues to make an impact on music lovers everywhere.

Side B vs Tsavo Highway

Side B, based in Albany, is an alternative rock band that blends various musical influences to create a unique sound that captivates listeners. These genres include indie-rock, funk, and alternative-folk. Their music is characterized by powerful, emotive vocals and impressive guitar work, resulting in intricate and memorable melodies. With nominations for Times Union’s Best Local Music Group and for the Eddies Music Award for Best Alt/Indie Artist of the Year, along with a growing fan base, Side B consistently delivers unforgettable performances that resonate deeply with audiences.

Tsavo Highway, from Buffalo, is an indie rock and jam band recognized for their outstanding live performances and songwriting skills. The band’s unique blend of genres and captivating stage presence have earned them a dedicated fan base. They have also gained prestigious accolades like Best New Band and Best Vocalist at the Allwyny Awards. In January 2025, Tsavo Highway released their latest album, further solidifying their position in the music scene and demonstrating their continuous growth and evolution as artists.

Leanne Gallati vs Hipsy Gap

Brooklyn’s Leanne Gallati is a singer-songwriter known for her upbeat pop and rock music. With a theater degree and a background as the lead singer of NYC Funk, Leanne has brought her powerful vocals and heartfelt lyrics to the music scene. Since 2022, she has been creating music under her real name, blending her theater experience with her musical passion. Glass Pony vs Rollin’ Rust

Albany’s Glass Pony specializes in psychedelic grooves and has gained a reputation for their unique, exploratory sound and live performances. Featuring Chanda Dewey on drums and vocals, Eddie Hotaling on guitar and vocals, Jeff Picarazzi on bass and vocals, and Greg Pitzz on lead guitar and vocals, the band combines rich harmonies, intricate guitar work, and intense lyricism to create an immersive musical experience. Their boundary-pushing approach and infectious energy have made them stand out in the psychedelic scene.

The Rollin’ Rust is a folk rock band from Central New York, led by singer-songwriter James VanDeuson. The group features Jim Hearn on lead guitar, Kyle Dennis on drums and vocals, and Nash Robb on upright and electric bass and vocals. Their music carries a rich storytelling spirit, blending elements of blues, bluegrass, roots, folk, and country. Since forming in 2021, the band has thrived in the regional music scene, winning Battle of the Borderland in 2024. Their debut studio album, Road Rats, released in 2022, showcases their skillful songwriting and heartfelt musicianship.

Overhand Sam vs Neil Minet Band

Overhand Sam is a psychedelic indie rock artist from Rochester. He is known for his overhand guitar technique, a style developed after an arm injury at a young age. As a founding member of Maybird, he has been using his experience to craft his distinctive sound since releasing his first solo record in 2016. Performing as a trio with Benton Silick on bass and Dennis Mariano on drums, Overhand Sam has taken his live show on the road and released his third record, Bad Weapon, primarily on vinyl. He’s back in the studio, working on his next release.

Neil Minet is a blues and American singer-songwriter and guitarist with a deep-rooted passion for storytelling through music. With a rich background spanning blues, folk, Americana, bluegrass, and rock ’n’ roll, his sound is timeless and deeply genuine. Whether performing solo, as a duo, or leading the Neil Minet Band, he delivers soulful performances that resonate with audiences. His blend of passionate lyrics and masterful guitar work makes him a standout voice in the contemporary roots music scene.

Yort vs Free Whenever

Yort, a rock band formed in 2020 in Troy, originally specialized in the reverb-heavy, instrumental-driven sounds of surf rock combined with psychedelic music’s dreamy, experimental qualities. Over time, they began incorporating elements of funk metal and occasionally country, creating a unique fusion of styles. With five members, Yort has become known for its genre-blending approach and dynamic sound. Their most recent album, Buzzin’, was released in November 2024, showcasing their evolving musical direction and creativity.

Free Whenever is a Brooklyn-based trio known for its expansive improvisational performances and unique blend of psychedelia, dub, Eastern modality, and African rhythmic traditions. Featuring guitar as a central element, the band’s sound is a captivating journey through experimental musical landscapes. Their newest self-titled LP has gained recognition within Brooklyn’s music scene. Their impressive live shows also continue to engage audiences with their genre-defying approach. Free Whenever pushes boundaries while staying deeply rooted in cultural rhythms and spontaneous musical expression.

The Laura Leigh Band vs Alex Northrup

The Laura Leigh Band, based in Washington County, brings an Appalachian-inspired sound to the Americana genre. As she is known for her heartfelt storytelling, Laura Leigh’s music explores the complexities of life. In 2021, she released her debut solo album, Living in Cambridge, produced by Jonathan Stewart. The album paints vivid pictures of the small town she grew up in, capturing its joyful and melancholic aspects. Beloved by those who experience her live performances, Laura Leigh connects with audiences through her powerful music and genuine presence.

Rochester’s Alex Northrup, a multi-instrumentalist, has been a key figure in the local music scene. He has led Northern Spies and collaborated with bands like The Demos and Jon Lewis Band. His latest album, Turning Point, blends bold melodies, playful rhythms, and classical-inspired arrangements with rich electronic textures. Whether solo or with his band, The Darlingtones, his live shows are full of energy, passion, and creativity. Northrup is now set to release new material, starting with Mutually Assured Distraction on March 7. This will be the first track from his upcoming Victory Lapse album in late May.

Dysfunktone vs SM Ink

Dysfunktone, from East Rockaway, originated in a garage where the band members began jamming and exploring their musical interests. Known for their progressive jam-funk sound, they push boundaries with every performance, seamlessly incorporating improvisation into any song. Their intricate compositions are designed to challenge conventions and create unique live experiences. Having already toured throughout the Northeast, Dysfunktone is eager to expand its reach and continue spreading its music to new audiences.

SM Ink, co-founder of The SkyWay Collective, is an electronic music artist known for his distinctive sound in minimal deep house music. He aims to create layered, hypnotic beats that transport listeners to an “out of this world” experience. Based in the Northeast, SM Ink’s music is a staple of the local electronic and club scene, captivating audiences with its mesmerizing grooves and intricate production. With a growing presence in the underground music community, he continues to push sonic boundaries and refine his signature style.
