From NAACP Honors to Carnegie Hall Debut, Samara Joy Does It All

Samara Joy’s impressive streak of accolades continued on February 24 when the Rochester native received the prestigious NAACP Image Award.

Joy, a five-time GRAMMY winner, took home the Outstanding Jazz Album honor for her latest studio album, Portrait. Portrait represents a significant artistic advancement for Joy, who co-produced the EP alongside acclaimed musician and GRAMMY winner, Brian Lynch. The album represents Joy’s development since her Best New Artist GRAMMY win. It also highlights her exceptional vocal talents alongside her emerging skills as a lyricist and band leader. 

Samara Joy also graced the stage at the NAACP post-show benefit concert, delivering an emotive rendition of “Guess Who I Saw Today” and “Lately.” The event raised funds for the Altadena Community Preservation Fund. The NAACP established this fund to support the Altadena community affected by the Eaton fires. Joy’s heartfelt performance showcased her dedication to both her artistry and the causes she passionately supports.

Joy’s busy awards season continued as she took on presenting duties at the 15th Annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards held at The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. As well as On February 2, Joy collected her fourth and fifth GRAMMY Awards at the 67th Annual ceremony. Joy won Best Jazz Performance for “Twinkle Twinkle Little Me” featuring Sullivan Fortner. She also won Best Jazz Vocal Album for “A Joyful Holiday.” These recent wins build upon her previous GRAMMY successes.

Throughout 2025, Joy will take her tour to exciting new heights, with her highly anticipated Carnegie Hall debut on April 30. As one of the most iconic venues in the world, Carnegie Hall is a cornerstone of New York City’s music scene. This debut will be a defining moment in her career, further cementing her place among the greats.
