The Drama Desk Awards, New York’s top theater honors, will hold its 69th annual ceremony at NYU’s Skirball Center on June 1, 2025. The awards cover Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway. This year, the awards continue their groundbreaking shift to gender-neutral performance categories. They’ve doubled nominee slots and winners for equitable recognition.

Executive Producers Staci Levine and Jessica R. Jenen will helm the ceremony again. It will benefit the Entertainment Community Fund. The producers are excited to celebrate theater artistry and support the non-profit community during these uncertain times. The expanded performance categories reflect their commitment to inclusivity. These include Outstanding Leading Performance and Outstanding Featured Performance for plays and musicals.
The Drama Desk Awards are unique because their voters are critics, journalists, and theater writers. Martha Wade Steketee chairs this year’s nominating committee. Committee members also include Linda Armstrong (New York Amsterdam News) and Peter Filichia (Broadway Radio).
Productions must open by April 27 to be eligible. Nominations will be announced on April 30. Founded in 1949, the awards explore critical theater issues. They also support New York’s vibrant performing arts community. Co-presidents David Barbour and Charles Wright lead the organization. They bridge Broadway’s grandeur and smaller venues’ innovation.
Information about benefit sponsorships and tickets for the June ceremony for the 2025 Drama Desk Awards is coming soon. The event will celebrate theatrical excellence across New York City’s stages. It reflects the Drama Desk’s enduring commitment to recognizing outstanding achievement in the theater community.
