Renowned rock band Spin Doctors released their new single, “Still a Gorilla,” on Jan. 17, from their first album in over ten years, titled Face Full of Cake. The band has also announced an album release show scheduled for April at NYC’s Brooklyn Bowl.

“Still a Gorilla” features a lyrical music video with vibrant, mesmerizing visuals and the single’s upbeat, high-volume melody. The heavier yet recognizably humorous lyrics gathers inspiration from Swedish artists Robyn’s “Konichiwa Bitches,” where the band explores new genres after 35 years.
“‘Still A Gorilla’ is a heavy-duty track about what it is to be human,” said vocalist Chris Barron. “[Drummer] Aaron [Comess] had that piece of music around for quite a long time, and whenever he and I sat down to try and write some lyrics to it, it just never quite came together.” However, after Comess sent Barron the Swedish producer’s 2005 hit song as inspiration for the new single, the missing pieces came together. “Aaron was like, ‘A vibe like this would be cool,’ and the humor of that song gave me the entree into the song, so I just sat down and wrote that in an hour.”

The 90s band’s full-length debut album, Pocket Full of Kryptonite (1991), launched their career and success, landing them performances at Saturday Night Live, Woodstock, Glastonbury and more. With over five million copies in the U.S., the band received a nomination for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group at the GRAMMY awards. The band continues to perform through three decades and over two thousand shows together, and their fanbase only grows bigger by the year.
To celebrate the new record, the band will perform an album release show at NYC’s Brooklyn Bowl on April 12. Presale to the highly-awaited event will begin on Monday, Jan. 20, and tickets will be available to purchase for the general public starting on Friday, Jan. 24.
