Buffalo musician and music journalist Jeff Miers has announced a benefit to support musicians displaced by the Los Angeles fires. The event will take place at Sportsmens Tavern on Monday, January 20, starting at 6pm.
All proceeds will benefit MusicCares’ efforts to aid musicians who have been impacted by the tragic fires unfolding in California.

Miers said in a Facebook post “Feeling powerless and heartbroken watching this hellscape unfurl from the other side of the country, I wanted to put together a benefit for the people who have lost so much in the Los Angeles fires. I reached out to some of the very finest musicians and bands in the Buffalo area, who I’m blessed to call my friends, and asked if they’d be interested in donating their talents to this effort. All of them said yes, without hesitation. I reached out Jason Hall at the Sportsmen’s Tavern to inquire about a last minute date. He offered me one in seconds flat.”
Miers continued, “This, in a nutshell, is what I love about Buffalo.”
So, on Monday, January 20, beginning promptly at 6 pm at the Sportsmens Tavern, Help On the Way: A Buffalo Benefit for Musicians Displaced by the Los Angeles Fires, will feature performances by Organ Fairchild, the Damone Jackson Outcome, Miller & the Other Sinners, Critt’s Juke Joint and Tiger Chung Lee.
Money raised will go to benefit MusiCares’ Los Angeles Fire Relief Fund, to support music professionals impacted by the crisis. A combined pledge of $1 million from MusiCares and the Recording Academy kicks off the fundraising effort, and now additional support comes from the east.
Miers has a person connection to the fires, as his son and his partner live in the heart of the area directly impacted by the Eaton fires. While they, and Buffalo musician Zuri Appleby, were able to evacuate, so many more connected to New York have lost everything, with the threat of the fires still present as of Sunday, January 12.
Tickets for the show are $15 and can be purchased here.
If you can’t make the event on January 20 at Sportsmen’s Tavern, please consider donating directly to MusiCares’ Los Angeles Fire Relief Fund to support Los Angeles musicians.
