With only three weeks remaining before Disc Jam Music Festival’s 8th year in Stephentown, NY, there’s much to anticipate other than the drive to Gardner’s Farm. Disc Jam Music Festival has an impressive lineup to offer this year, and with four different stages to house over 80 artists, there won’t be a step away from music all day and all night of its four-day span, starting June 7. Along with the continuous loop of music, there is a community like no other among the #DiscJamFam craft vendors, visual artists, workshops, special performances and disc golf tournaments. With these activities and more, Disc Jam offers an experience to cater to every attendee, but don’t let that distract you from the focal point and driving force of the experience – the incredible acts on this year’s bill.
The festival’s headliners include Lotus, Beats Antique, Galactic, The Motet, Electron (feat. members of Lotus and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead), Disco Biscuits guitarist Jon ‘The Barber’ Gutwillig (solo acoustic set), Gubbulidis (Twiddle side project), Kung Fu, Moon Hooch, Aqueous, Ghost Note (Snarky Puppy side project) and Tom Marshall’s Amfibian All-Stars, among a plethora of other collaborative projects, such as Ghost Light (Tom Hamilton and Holly Bowling) and DJ Logic and Friends (feat. members of The Disco Biscuits, Dopapod and Turkuaz).
Disc Jam’s location resides on a 27-hole disc golf course, tucked away on the rolling hills of Gardner’s Farm in Stephentown, NY. This upstate marvel is well represented with the New York-based artists booked on this year’s lineup. 87/90 featured band Cousin Earth hails from Brooklyn and will be taking the Tent Stage on Thursday at 3 pm, delivering a cohort of instrumentation to create the progressive masterpieces off of their most recent album, Human Music. Taking to the Tent Stage shortly after are the Oneonta natives of the tropical disco collective Space Carnival, elevating the evening energy at 6:30 pm. Brooklyn-based trio Moon Hooch serves as the first Main Stage closer Thursday night at 8:45 pm, bringing what can only be described as “cave music,” the layering mastery of an attentive drummer and two saxophone players (with about 23 tone holes each to pick from) to create the sound of a massive brass bonanza.
Describing their music as “Artfully Conceived Dance Music for the Body and Mind”, the Ithaca locals of Big Mean Sound Machine will yield a morning alarm for attendees when they take to the Main Stage at 11 am on Saturday, bringing an eight-piece brass powerhouse to start the day right. The Albany-based, improvisational masters of Formula 5 take to the Tent Stage Saturday at 3:30 pm as a final stop on their 2018 spring tour, sure to go out with a rhythmically dynamic bang as they make their return to Disc Jam. Brooklyn band Space Bacon has been noted for taking New York by storm, combining jazz influences and modern electronica equipment to create a sound for all generations, destined to get the Tent Stage crowd moving when they perform at 5 pm. Finishing out the diverse assortment of bands is Let’s Be Leonard on Sunday at 2 pm on the Tent Stage, closing out the fest with catchy tunes and positive vibes, representing Saratoga Springs in the New York State conglomerate of musicians that are playing over the four days of the fest.
