Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival recently announced their initial lineup, featuring a slew of all-stars. the Del McCoury Band, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Jerry Douglas Band, the Infamous Stringdusters and the Steep Canyon Rangers are all included.
The Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival takes place July 13 to 16 in Oak Hill, NY. The festival, being dubbed as “A Who’s Who of Bluegrass in the Beautiful Catskill,” features many heavy hitters from the scene. In addition to bluegrass legends Del McCoury and Ricky Skaggs, the lineup includes younger acts that have been making waves such as the Steep Canyon Rangers, Jeff Austin Band and the Infamous Stringdusters. Grammy award winners Sarah Jarosz and the O’Connor Band with Mark O’Connor are included in the lineup. Friday night at the festival will see the Grateful Ball, a collaboration between the Travelin’ McCourys and the Jeff Austin Band paying tribute to the Grateful Dead. The festival also features a number of New York artists including Julian Lage & Chris Eldridge, Michael Daves & Friends, Mike and Ruthy and Jordan Tice & Horse County.
Grey Fox is much more than a concert festival. Workshops and seminars allow aspiring musicians of all ages to learn to play bluegrass, from beginner to more advanced classes in various instruments and vocals. Yoga and meditation are offered each morning of the festival. Past festivals have seen an open mic night on Wednesday night for early arrivals.
Tickets for the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival are on sale now. Full festival with camping tickets are $205, while single day passes for Thursday, Friday or Saturday are available for $75. Day passes do not include camping.
