BREAKING: Rochester’s Water Street Closed Down

The city of Rochester put Water Street Music Hall’s future into question by denying the venue’s entertainment license renewal.

Citing crowd control issues, recent shots fired outside the venue, and multiple fighting complaints, Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli recommended the city deny the application.

Rochester music goers will finally have a reason for the lack of announced shows and website updates over the past several months. The club also had an extended closure in 2014 due to lapse in their liquor license.

Water Street opened in 1977 as the Country Warehouse and went through a few name changes before settling on the Water Street Music Hall moniker in 1999. The hallowed hall has held thousands of concerts spanning all genres and even hosted jam band favorite Phish several times in the early ’90s.

Water Street will have 10 days to appeal the denial. In the meantime, New York music fans will have to cross their fingers and wait.

Water Street has yet to release any statement regarding the situation.
