Peter Hook, former bassist and co-founding member of Joy Division and New Order performed 29 songs across two hefty sets on Saturday, September 5, for his first New York City performance since Brooklyn Steel in 2024.

The first set featured the entire 2001 New Order album, Get Ready, followed by a set of Joy Division and New Order classics dedicated to Ruth Polsky, the revered New York City talent booker who was responsible for putting on the band’s first U.S. performances at the famed 1980’s nightclub Danceteria.

Located along Flatbush Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn, the Paramount was a fitting venue for Hooky’s 2026 North American tour. Built in 1928, the venue was famous for hosting early jazz, doo-wop and rock n’ roll concerts, including such legendary names as Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Ray Charles, Neil Sedaka, Bo Diddly, Brenda Lee, Little Anthony and the Imperials, the Supremes, Chubby Checker and many more.

Plans to renovate the historic venue to its former glory were originally announced in 2015, but were set back by several delays, until things came to a screeching halt in 2020. Live Nation announced it would take over the renovation in 2023 and a year later officially reopened the space.

The crowd shouted as the lights went down and Peter Hook and The Light took the stage. Over the course of the evening, audience members were treated to such Joy Division and New Order classics as “Blue Monday,” “True Faith,” “Shadowplay,” “Transmission,” “Ceremony,” “Temptation,” ending with “Love Will Tear Us Apart”
