Alternative rockers Third Eye Blind performed on the Suburban Park Stage at the Great New York State Fair on Saturday, August 29.

The San Francisco based band was greeted by a sea of concertgoers when they took the stage at 8 p.m. Near-perfect summer weather resulted in a surge in fair attendance, with fair officials reporting Saturday’s total attendance of 114,644- the fair’s highest single day figure since 2019. The concert had an estimated total of 49,000- the third highest figure for a show on that stage.

They opened Saturday’s set with “Thanks a Lot”, a song off of their 1997 self-titled debut album. The album, which served as the soundtrack for so many during their formative years, served as the foundation for the band’s setlist on Saturday, with eight of their sixteen songs stemming from that album.

“This could be the very best night of summer” singer Stephan Jenkins proclaimed, before he led the audience through a sing along portion of “Shipboard Cook”. The moment seemed to allow Jenkins time to catch his breath, as his boundless energy was evident through much of the set. “I wrote this song to be sung in a pub by folks who don’t know the words”, Jenkins explained, as he talked the audience through the lyrics. “I’d describe that as timid, at best” he joked at the song’s end.

The audience’s response to the next song was anything but timid, as they sang along to “Jumper” word for word, in deafening fashion.

In all, the band performed for over 90 minutes, to the delight of those in attendance. The setlist flowed like a movie soundtrack, and included all of the hits fans have come accustomed to over the last three decades. It included “Semi-Charmed Life”, “Graduate”, and “Motorcycle Drive By”, as well as a cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes”. They closed the evening with “How’s it Going to Be”, one of their biggest hits which again drew a strong response from the crowd.
