Phish rolled in to Fenway Park in Boston, MA after a historic run at Madison Square Garden on July 31. The sun was shining and spirits were high marking their first return to the legendary ballpark since 2019.
The Phish from Vermont still had plenty on the table and on night 1, with a focus on long jams during the first set. They kicked off the show with a nearly 15 minute long “Carini” followed up by “Everything’s Right.” After getting “Back on the Train,” Trey Anastasio talked about how cool it was that they got to play a historic ballpark like Fenway Park and how he wishes he could hit a home run over the Green Monster. The six song set ended with a juicy “Harry Hood.”
Set 2 started off with “What’s Going Through Your Mind,” a jam vehicle in recent years. Anastasio decided to keep his mini drum set (that was on stage for numerous jams on Night 4 and 5 at MSG) on hand in which he broke out during this jam. It would be cool to see the mini drum set become a mainstay once again, allowing for unique jams. After bringing the “Fuego,” Phish busted out with XTC’s “Melt The Guns,” which hasn’t been played in over 2,000 shows. The set ended with a fierce “Run Like an Antelope” before sending it home with “A Life Beyond The Dream” and “Say It To Me Santos.”
Phish closes out summer tour tonight at Fenway Park followed by their return to Commerce City, CO. Check out photos from night 1 in Boston below.
