Oteil & Friends Unveil Phish & Dead Mashup at The Cap

Oteil Burbridge and some of his friends recently treated fans to a musical mashup of two of the heavy hitters in the jam band scene. Playing with his band Oteil & Friends at Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre on October 3, they arranged a mix of Phish’s powerhouse jam vehicle “Tweezer” along with the traditional lyrics of “I Know You Rider,” a song popularized by the Grateful Dead.

The supporting members of Oteil & Friends is a who’s who of notable musicians including Jason Crosby, Duane Betts, Steve and John Kimock, Melvin Seals, Tom Guarna, and Lamar Williams Jr. During their Fall Tour, the band has been delighting audiences with setlists comprised largely of covers from the Jerry Garcia Band and Allman Brothers Band songbook, which Oteil has extensive knowledge of as a longtime member. The show also featured a performance of  “Friend of the Lithium Devil”—Jason Crosby’s mashup of the Dead’s “Friend of the Devil” and Nirvana‘s “Lithium”—which has been performed regularly on this tour.

Three of the Fall Tour shows -including 10/2 in Beverly, MA, 10/3 in Port Chester, NY, and 10/4 in Harrisburg, PA – can be watched VOD on Nugs at nugs.net/oteilburbridge. There is one last scheduled show on the record in New Orleans at The Tipping Point on November 14. Tickets are on sale now at https://www.oteilburbridge.com/.
