Bird Streets Channels Laid-Back Essence of Melodic Rock with “It’s A Start”

Bird Streets, the alter-ego of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist John Brodeur, is back with a new single, “It’s A Start,” for his upcoming third album, The Escape Artist. The single is a rich, mellifluous embodiment of the soft rock genre.
Bird Streets released his new single, "It's A Start," ahead of his upcoming third album, "The Escape Artist."

Inspired by the beaming California sun, “It’s A Start” captures the easygoing essence of the 2000s West Coast melodic rock sound, steeped in breezy acoustics and laid-back warmth.

The music is indebted to later-period Elliott Smith, his more psychedelic work. Figure 8 was a huge influence when I was making my first solo record, and it’s one I come back to a lot because of its range of sounds.

“It’s A Start” offers an anticipatory sneak peek into the Brooklyn-based musician’s album, soon to be released on October 17.

From the NPR Slingshot Class of 2018, Bird Streets collaborated with producer Jason Falkner for the album, reuniting once again following his debut album. Bird Streets also collaborated with Gina Romantini (Wallflowers, Jayhawks), Zach Jones (Sting), and Oscar Albis Rodriguez (A Great Big World).

Bird Streets is set to go on tour this September, performing “The Escape Artist” with honeycrush on his last stop in New York at The Bowery Electric on October 10.
