Indiana-based jam band Dizgo brought its blend of psychedelic rock, funk, and free-flowing improvisation to Woodstock on Thursday, October 22, turning the Bearsville Theater into a dance floor for a night of infectious grooves and extended jams.

New Paltz’s Kale opened the evening with a mix of original material and covers, gradually warming up the crowd and drawing people onto the dance floor. Rather than sticking to familiar arrangements, the band used its covers as a starting point for extended improvisation, letting the grooves develop and the musicians stretch out. It was a strong introduction to the freewheeling approach that carried through the rest of the night.

Shortly after 9 p.m., Dizgo took the stage and quickly found its groove. Andrew Pickel, Kevin Hinnefeld, Jake Evatt, and Justin Clark showed the kind of chemistry that allows a jam to unfold naturally without losing direction. Funk-driven rhythms gave way to expansive psychedelic passages, with each musician adding something to the mix. The band’s ability to explore different musical directions while keeping a steady groove was a highlight of the performance.
The crowd responded in kind, with much of the audience dancing and moving along to the shifting rhythms. As the jams grew and changed, the energy in the room followed, creating a lively atmosphere that connected the band with the people on the dance floor.

The Bearsville Theater’s lighting added to the experience, with colorful washes and pulsing effects that complemented Dizgo’s psychedelic sound. The visuals were especially effective during the longer instrumental passages, adding to the atmosphere without distracting from the musicians onstage.

With Kale setting the tone and Dizgo building on it throughout the evening, the show delivered a lively night of improvisational music in Woodstock. Dizgo’s mix of funk, psychedelia, and exploratory jamming kept the dance floor moving and made for an engaging night at the Bearsville Theater.
