New York City singer-songwriter Nadia Faye explores the uneasy space between desire and uncertainty on new single “drift.” Blending thoughtful lyricism with atmospheric production, her music captures the tension between vulnerability and self-discovery.
Faye crafts intimate songs that explore desire, connection, and the fleeting nature of human relationships. This single follows her 2025 debut album Gardening.
“drift” explores unfulfilled longing, capturing the emotional disorientation of wavering affection. Co-produced with musician Max Morgen in their New York City apartments, the single pairs Faye’s soft, emotive vocals and delicately plucked guitar with unwavering drums and bass. Minimal arrangements creates a persistent tension, allowing the song to hover between longing and doubt.
“Under fluid “water movements,” I become suffocated by my own perpetual desire and the impermanence of attachment. I know it is not enough, and I can feel the withholding drag me under, but it is still better than nothing, and what could ever be enough?”
– Nadia Faye, on “drift”
The track “drift” lingers in restraint, allowing each instrumental layer and vocal phrase to breathe. The result is intimate and immersive, mirroring the emotional limbo at the center of the lyrics. Faye’s understated delivery makes the song’s longing feel deeply personal, which draws listeners into its unresolved emotional landscape.
The companion music video extends that atmosphere through a striking contrast of bright, dream-like imagery and moments of darkness and solitude. The grain of the camera quality and the fading shots give the video a nostalgic feel, and the recurring water imagery mirrors the lyrical tension between emotionally drifting and drowning.
Together, this single and the accompanying music video offer a compelling meditation on the beauty and suffocation of wanting something that may never be enough.
