Binghamton Philharmonic Presents “Haunted Hollywood” October 24

The Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra will embrace the Halloween spirit with “Haunted Hollywood,” an event that combines silent-film with live orchestral music. This event will take place on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 pm at the Broome County Forum Theater and is a part of their Visions Federal Credit Union Pops Series.

Guest conductor Andrew Greene will lead the orchestra in live accompaniment for two silent-film favorites: Buster Keaton’s The Haunted House and Laurel and Hardy’s Habeas Corpus. A program of seasonal ragtime selections will underscore these films, recalling the early cinema tradition in which live musicians brought the score to life.

Greene is a conductor and director of the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra, which is dedicated to preserving America’s early popular music. A pianist and musicologist, he maintains an extensive musical archive with research interests in historic silent-film accompaniment. His performance and lecture appearances include the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Library of Congress.

With its combination of film, ragtime, and theatre-organ tradition, Binghamton Philharmonic’s “Haunted Hollywood” continues the Philharmonic’s tradition of connecting music and cinema in an accessible, family-friendly setting.

“With Haunted Hollywood classics, the symphony is deliriously–and, with the right intermission snack, deliciously–ghostly! So put on your costume, pick out your seat, and pop up some corn for this devilish double feature. And don’t forget to scream!”
