Teen Mortgage, Alkaline Trio and Rise Against took over The Rooftop at Pier 17 on Wednesday, September 30, as Rise Against’s Ricochet Tour made its New York City stop.

Teen Mortgage opened the night with an 11-song set, bringing their heavy, fuzz-driven sound to Pier 17. The Washington, D.C. duo worked through tracks including “Doctor,” “Sick Day,” “Burn” and “Devil Ultrasonic Dream,” while also throwing in a cover of the Misfits’ “Hybrid Moments.” They closed with “Falling Down,” setting the stage for Alkaline Trio.

Alkaline Trio followed with a 16-song set spanning the band’s extensive catalog. Matt Skiba, Dan Andriano and Atom Willard wasted little time getting things moving, opening with “We’ve Had Enough” before reaching back for favorites including “Private Eye,” “Stupid Kid,” “Emma” and “Mercy Me.”

The set offered a solid cross-section of Alkaline Trio’s different eras, mixing longtime fan favorites with more recent material. They closed with “Radio,” sending an already energized Pier 17 crowd into the headlining set.

Rise Against followed with Tim McIlrath leading the band into “Satellite,” immediately setting the pace for a set built around the group’s mix of punk urgency, melody and socially conscious songwriting.

The 17-song performance pulled from throughout Rise Against’s career, with “Give It All,” “The Good Left Undone,” “Audience of One” and “Prayer of the Refugee” among the night’s highlights. Newer material also found its place with “Living Undercover.”

The mood shifted for “Hero of War” and “Swing Life Away,” with the latter building to a full-band final chorus before the show returned to its heavier pace.

After closing the main set with “Prayer of the Refugee,” Rise Against returned for a two-song encore of “Survive” and “Savior.” An extended version of “Savior” brought the night to a close, capping off a bill that paired Rise Against and Alkaline Trio — two bands with deep roots in Chicago’s punk scene — with a newer generation represented by Teen Mortgage.
