For New York native Sean Kennedy, songwriting has always been a way of documenting life. Now back home in Westchester County after graduating from college, 22 year old Kennedy is entering a new chapter shaped by years of writing, recording, and reflecting on the experiences that have shaped his identity.

Sean Kennedy’s songwriting has been a lifelong journey, beginning at nine years old. A few years later, a recording session gifted to him by his grandmother introduced him to the studio process and inspired his musical career.
“That experience gave me so much knowledge and gave me the courage to start making my own recordings. I put out my first record when I was 15.”

Since the release of his first record, his music has evolved alongside him, with his catalog effectively tracing his own developmental journey through middle and high school through college. Following the release of 2023 album Forever Us, its title track surpassed 250,000 views on Youtube, marking a significant milestone before Kennedy signed with Rexius Records.
His personal evolution through music became the foundation for The Person in the Mirror, Kennedy’s debut album with Rexius Records released last year. This album is an introspective pop record, exploring self-reflection, nostalgia, and legacy. Blending louder guitar sounds in pop-rock track “Eighteen” with softer vulnerability on tracks like “When I Was Young” and “Been There Too,” each song is an opportunity to look back and consider how he arrived at the person he is today.

New York is central to Kennedy’s identity as an artist. Growing up close to the city gave him early access to live music, while the changing seasons have remained a source of creative inspiration. He also credits the support of local newspapers and radio stations that helped reinforce his sense that New York was a place where his music could grow.
Kennedy has continued creating since graduating from Holy Cross in May, including a recent single with childhood friend Giuliana Calandrucci. With plans to return to school next year, he sees the period ahead as an opportunity to keep experimenting with his music. After years of using songwriting to document where he has been, Sean Kennedy is now turning toward whatever’s coming next.
