Playhouse Stage Company Kicks Off Footloose For Its 38th Summer Season

Playhouse Stage Company (PSC) continues its 38th Summer Season with the high-energy musical Footloose, opening at Cohoes Music Hall on Tuesday, July 28. The production, running through August 15, features a dynamic cast of advanced teen students from PSC’s Stage Academy alongside Broadway and regional professionals, all in age-appropriate roles.

Footloose is the latest in a string of record-breaking productions by PSC, following the success of A Christmas Story: The Musical in back-to-back holiday seasons. The creative team, led by veteran Director Michael LoPorto, Musical Director Brian Axford, and Choreographer Gabi Bazinet-Douglas, reunites to bring this beloved 80s story to life on stage.

Based on the 1984 film that was Kevin Bacon’s breakout role, Footloose follows Ren McCormack, a city teen who moves to the small town of Bomont, where rock music and dancing have been banned. As Ren clashes with the town’s influential minister, Reverend Shaw Moore, and falls for Moore’s spirited daughter Ariel, he rallies Bomont’s teenagers to defy the rules and bring dancing back to their community.

The stage adaptation, written by original screenwriter Dean Pitchford with Walter Bobbie and featuring music by Tom Snow, includes chart-topping hits like Footloose,” “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” “Holding Out for a Hero,” and “Almost Paradise. Additional songs by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins, and Jim Steinman round out the soundtrack.

The cast is led by Jackson Majewski, a graduating senior from PSC’s Stage Academy, who plays Ren McCormack. Majewski was Prince Eric in last summer’s Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Joining him are Patrick Ryan Sullivan, a Broadway veteran known for roles as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, Titanic, and as Julian Marsh in 42nd Street, as Reverend Shaw Moore, and Molly Kirby, a PSC Stage Academy standout, as Ariel Moore.
