44th Annual Mermaid Parade Announces King and Queen

The annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade has announced its King and Queen for its 44th Annual Parade held Saturday, June 20th. The parade recognizes Jesse Malin as its King and Rickie Lee Jones as its Queen.

The Mermaid parade is a part of the non-profit multi-arts organization in Coney Island’s amusement district. Every year, the parade selects notable celebrities and figures to lead it through Coney Island.

The parade is one of the nation’s largest art parades, celebrating ancient mythology and seaside ritual, and attracts around 5,000 participants. The event features many individuals proudly displaying their handcrafted sea-themed customs and unique floats, along with marching bands, drill teams, and antique cars.

Adam Rinn, Coney Island USA’s Artistic Director, commented that, “The royalty for this year’s parade is a dream come true. There’s no other working artist in New York, at the moment that’s more deserving to lead this parade than Jesse. Not only is he a talented musician and an incredible songwriter, he’s given artists of all disciplines venues around the city in which to showcase their art. Rickie Lee Jones, is one of the best singer-songwriters ever! Rickie has influenced a generation of artists with her beautiful voice and her genre-defying blend of rock, jazz and pop.”
