As the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall marks an extraordinary 150 years as one of the nation’s most acoustically celebrated performance venues, WMHT Public Media is honoring its legacy with a new original documentary. The Music Hall: Troy NY’s Monument to Sound reflects on the hall’s rich history and architectural significance while highlighting its enduring role in shaping the cultural identity of Troy and the broader Capital Region.

The documentary will debut at a special premiere screening event on May 19 at 7:00 p.m., held inside the historic music hall itself, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience the venue’s renowned acoustics in the very space the film celebrates. A broadcast premiere will follow on May 20 at 7:30 p.m. across WMHT platforms, including on-air, online, and via the PBS App.
Established in 1875, the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall has long stood as a cultural cornerstone in downtown Troy, drawing world-class performers and audiences from around the globe. The film explores the hall’s storied past, from its architectural grandeur to its reputation as one of the finest acoustic spaces in the world. It also looks ahead, emphasizing the venue’s continued relevance through ongoing performances, partnerships, and community engagement.
Featuring contributions from prominent regional arts and educational organizations—including the Albany Symphony, Albany Pro Musica, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the Hart Cluett Museum—the documentary presents a multifaceted portrait of the hall’s cultural impact.
