Nevaris, from the Upper West Side of Manhattan, has shared ‘Ninth Sun- Live,’ a distinctive recording and offering from his ‘SoundSession’ EP. The full Track List and EP are set to release on February 27th.
Agustín Nevaris, a percussionist, keyboardist, vocalist, and composer, is influenced and inspired by Afro-Latin, dub, and funk Music. He has merged all these genres into distinctive compositions, making up his Track List for the ‘SoundSession’ EP.
The EP features live studio recordings from Nevaris and his nine-piece ensemble, which includes DJ Logic, Jonathan Maron, Angel Rodriguez, Will Bernard, Peter Apfelbaum, Jojo Kuo, Lockatron, and Matt Dickey. It is recorded and mixed by James Dellacoma and mastered by Michael Fossenkember at Turtletone Studios.
Nevaris commented that, “People think everything is manipulated in the studio and a lot of it is. And everybody is talking about AI now. But we are moving in the opposite direction where everything gets more organic and raw with every product we work on. There is nothing that can compare to the beauty of artists making work in its most organic form. There’s a place for technology and a place for getting back to the old school way of doing things. And that’s what the recording is about. Playing live together without any click track or overdubbing, or edits of any kind. And it takes cats who can really play to pull it off. It is a joy to play with every one of the musicians involved in the process.”
This EP was recorded in a single session live on May 30th, 2023, at Orange Sound studio in West Orange, New Jersey. Originally, the group had planned to do the performance streamed live; however, they decided to focus on the simplicity of playing live, with multiple cameras documenting the process.
The Track list of ‘SoundSession’ includes ‘Ninth Sun-Live,’ which is out now, ‘Remedy -Live,’ ‘Document,’ and ‘Dub Orchestra.’ Each recording encompasses distinctive and soulful sounds, capturing Nevaris and his ensemble’s talent.
‘Ninth Sun-Live’ is available on the ‘SoundSession’ EP and can be pre-ordered via Bandcamp. On February 27th, the whole EP will be released on digital music platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, and Bandcamp. Nevaris’s prior album, “Reverberations,” can additionally be found here, an album which Carlos Santana called “a work of supreme creativity.”
