Buffalo-born singer-songwriter Peter Case will release My Life To Live: Peter Case At McCabe’s on Thursday, April 24 via Sunset Blvd. Records. The live album recorded at the legendary McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, California, featuring reimagined versions of Case’s essential compositions.
The album documents a solo performance featuring Case’s guitar work and vocals, with guest Henri Cash of Starcrawler appearing on “A Million Miles Away,” originally a hit for Case’s band, The Plimsouls, in 1983. The track became a national college radio staple and reached the mainstream as an emblematic West Coast rock song.
My Life to Live: Peter Case at McCabe’s includes songs spanning Case’s catalog, recorded at the Santa Monica venue known for hosting songwriters. The digital, CD and vinyl release features tracks like “Ain’t Gonna Worry No More,” “Somebody Told The Truth” and material from his four-decade solo career.
Case spent time as a San Francisco street musician before fronting The Nerves, who wrote “Hanging on the Telephone” in 1976. Blondie later recorded the song. He formed The Plimsouls on New Year’s Day 1979, achieving commercial success with “A Million Miles Away” four years later.
His solo career began in 1986 with a self-titled album on Geffen Records that received a five-star review in Rolling Stone. He has earned three GRAMMY nominations, two for his recordings and one for producing the 2001 compilation Avalon Blues: A Tribute to the Music of Mississippi John Hurt.
Case will tour the U.S. through May, with stops in Boston, Northampton, Hoboken, Baltimore, Charlotte, Columbus, Chicago, Cleveland, Portland, and Buffalo.
