Saranac Lake locals can look forward to a busy March as The Waterhole opens the month with a lineup of multi-genre acts that feel as much a part of the community as the mountains that surround it.
While Winter Carnival is currently underway – with great events at The Waterhole all month long – March begins with Gubbulidis performing on March 5, followed later by the second annual Festival of the Local running March 19 through March 29.

Gubbulidis, a group that utilizes jam-guided improvisation and stripped-down Twiddle arrangements to create a sound far greater than two performers, will perform at The Waterhole on March 5. Based in Vermont, Mihali Savoulidis and Zdenek Gubb return to the venue after gaining national recognition for turning a two-person performance into a wall-to-wall experience through a layered style of loop pedals, beatboxing, and percussive bass lines. The Adirondacks are no stranger to Twiddle, as the band cultivated a loyal following here long before gaining national attention.
Doors open at 7:30 pm, Music starts at 8:30pm. The evening will include an opening performance by Jesse Bardwell. Tickets are $27 in advance and $32 day of show. Tickets are available for purchase on the Waterhole website or in person at the bar (with zero ticketing fees). For more information, visit their the venue’s website here.

Later in the month, an 11-day event welcomes more familiar faces as the second annual Festival of the Local returns from March 19 through March 29. Featuring more than 80 performers from Saranac Lake and the surrounding region highlighting musicians, writers, and creatives.
The celebration will feature ticketed shows upstairs alongside new free performances downstairs. Additionally, several bands will make their Waterhole debut, including Green Pill, Slough Creek, Last Pages, Tine Hill, Foolish Pride, Cloudspun, and Jeezum Crowe, diversifying the festival’s lineup.

A major highlight of this year’s Festival is The Waterhole’s first-ever All Ages concert, doubling as a fundraiser for Play ADK. It will also feature a book talk with local authors Curt Stager and David Fadden discussing their collaborative work First Adirondackers: 12,000 Years of Indigenous Peoples in the Adirondack Uplands.

Tickets will be available for purchase via the Waterhole website and at the door upon entry.
