Umphrey’s McGee came back to their favorite Buffalo venue, the Town Ballroom, on Sunday, February 1 as a part of their “Skies the Limit” tour.

This would be Buffalo’s first look at the new line-up as drummer Scotty Zwang took over behind the kit last year. Zwang has breathed fresh life into the band, he seems to have a more jazzy style and the improv throughout the night had a new sense of patience and discovery.

The Buffalo crowd filled the room on a bitterly cold Sunday night. The band delivered a stellar two-set, three-hour performance blending fan favorites (“2X2,” “Front Porch”), rare newer cuts (“Exit Signs”), and a wildly eclectic mix of covers, from Ween and Corey Hart to a blazing Hendrix encore, plus clever teases of Chic, Led Zeppelin, and Bon Jovi woven throughout an adventurous second set.
