NYC rock band Telescreens come out swinging on new single “Preacher,” a strong, high volume track that signals a sharp entry into the current rock landscape.

Formed in Manhattan and comprised of Jackson Hamm (vocals/guitar), Austin Brenner (bass), Josiah Valerius (keys/synth), and Oliver Graf (drums). The new single is Telescreens’ follow up to last Fall’s “Nothing” and its B-sides, “Gimme All You Got” and “Alcoholism.
On “Preacher,” Telescreens weaponize their signature raw intensity to define themselves as a band with edge. The single hones in on an identity that rejects modern fluff in favor of a clear, uncompromising artistic vision. Lyrically, the song attacks the culture of idolization that society inhabits, a clear statement from a band with no interest in conformity. The song exposes the cruelty that it is to build individuals to inhuman expectations, only to relish in their fall. Fame becomes a spectacle, one that strips individuals of their humanity and reducing them to figures of judgment. Musically, the song leans into tension, making the confrontational nature of the lyrics feel unavoidable.

The video for the track, directed by Jack Cohen, gives the band a distinct narrative quality. Glitchy, psychedelic visuals pull viewers into an immersive story driven by a clear thematic focus. Leaning into their New York roots, the video features local figures Kareem Rahma of Subway Takes and Paul Rizzo of The Bitter End. Vocalist Hamm notes,”Television, to be seen by millions of people at once, it was powerful. Today, that power is readily available at our fingertips. We’re all one viral moment away from being thrust into stardom.” The sentiment reflects the video’s nostalgic contrast between of past stardom and of fame today.
