Brooklyn Band Ringing Announce Debut Album, Share New Single “incandescent”

Brooklyn band Ringing have announced their debut album, another cycle in the cosmic wash, out March 20, via Julia’s War Recordings and Signal/Noise Records. Along with the announcement, the band has shared the album’s first single, “incandescent,” a heavy and introspective track that sets the tone for what’s to come.

“incandescent” moves at a measured pace, built around dense guitars and a steady, grounded rhythm section. The song doesn’t rush toward a big payoff. Instead, it sits with discomfort, letting repetition and restraint do the work. It feels less like a standalone single and more like an introduction to the album’s emotional core.

The accompanying video follows that same approach. Rather than relying on flashy visuals, it keeps things minimal and moody, matching the song’s slow build and inward focus. The result is understated but effective, reinforcing the feeling of unease that runs through the track.

Musically, Ringing balances weight and clarity. The guitars blur together without becoming messy, while subtle changes in dynamics hint at the band’s live power. Vocalist Colton Walker’s voice stays low in the mix, blending into the noise instead of sitting on top of it, which gives the song a confessional feel.

Walker describes “incandescent” as “about admitting that you aren’t happy with the way you’re living your life.” That idea shapes the song’s structure, and it never offers an easy resolution, choosing instead to stay in that moment of realization.

That sense of honesty carries over to the rest of another cycle in the cosmic wash. The album was originally recorded live in a single session in 2024, but Walker later scrapped the initial lyrics, feeling they were too vague. Over the next year, the band revisited the songs and rewrote them with more focus and intention, reflecting where they were at personally and as a group.

Across its ten tracks, the album reportedly mixes Ringing’s heavy sound with more melodic moments, using patience and repetition as much as volume. While rooted in shoegaze, the songs lean toward something looser and more direct.

Ringing started as Walker’s solo project in 2020 before growing into a four-piece that’s become a regular part of New York City’s underground scene. Their 2023 EP, Is It Light Out Where You Are?, released via Julia’s War and Candlepin Records, highlighted a band comfortable with loud, immersive songwriting. Since then, Ringing has toured extensively along the East Coast, sharing bills with Bleary Eyed, Shower Curtain, All Under Heaven, and Soft Blue Shimmer.

With another cycle in the cosmic wash, Ringing looks ready to turn that momentum into a full-length release that values emotional clarity as much as volume. If “incandescent” is any sign, the album will lean into difficult truths rather than avoiding them.
