Mayor Dorcey Applyrs Signs First Executive Order Focused on Rejuvenating Albany’s Nightlife

Albany’s new Mayor, Dorcey Applyrs, signed her first executive order on January 2, 2026, creating a nightlife economy council aimed at rejuvenating the city’s nightlife. The Advisory Council on Nightlife Economy will consist of government officials and business leaders in the area, who were given a deadline of 100 days to identify why Albany is lacking in their nightlife. The council will then complete a final report, alongside recommendations to address these issues, by July 1st.

The Advisory Council co-chairs include Dora Philip, partner, Philip & Croteau Hospitality, housing The Hollow Bar + Kitchen and Rosanna’s in Albany and Ravenswood in Clifton Park; Kevin Johnson, executive director, The Palace Theater; Todd Shapiro, proprietor, The Albany War Room Tavern and The Greenhouse Social Club of La Serre; Craig Earle (DJ TGIF), owner, the Fuze Box, and Colin Pratt and Lauren Slezak, co-owners of Delaware Supply.

The purpose of the Advisory Council on Nightlife Economy will not only benefit and stimulate Albany’s economy, but it will also lead to high hopes for the music community. Mayor Applyrs hopes that this initiative will lead to opportunities for Albany’s local talent and entice them to stay in Albany. In addition, focus on advancing bars and restaurants will increase opportunities for new and upcoming artists to share their talent.

Mayor Applyrs also introduced a mayor’s fellow, Sean Millington, tasked with understanding the desires of college students regarding nightlife and devising plans to keep talented artists in Albany and create spaces for them to showcase their talents.

Mayor Dorcey Applyrs’ focus on improving the nightlife in Albany is extremely promising for artists and musicians who hope to have a promising atmosphere for musical opportunities and success. It will be extremely interesting to see which new artists will rise from this revived focus on nightlife.
