Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes Invites Community to Celebrate “The Magic of Holiday Traditions Together”

With the holiday season here, the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes (OSFL) welcomes friends and family for a joyful and musical celebration of the season: The Magic of Holiday Traditions Together on Saturday, December 13 at 3:00 p.m. at the Clemens Center in Elmira.

Come early and stay for the warmth, music and community-spirit of the holidays. The concert features beloved seasonal favorites — from the shimmering beauty of “The Winter That United Us” by Wang Jie, to the toe-tapping fun of “Sleigh Ride” (complete with festive hats!), and familiar carols such as “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “Joy to the World.”

Highlights include a performance by featured jazz pianist Christian Li (originally from the area), the inspiring voices of the Corning Painted Post High School Choristers, and the rich harmonies of the Chorus of the Southern Finger Lakes in uplifting selections by John Rutter and local favorite Dan Forrest as well as the traditional “Hallelujah” chorus by Handel and a Christmas carol singalong–fun for the whole family.

“Each December, it is a true joy for us at OSFL to welcome our community into the warm embrace of music and holiday tradition,” says Maestro Toshiyuki Shimada. “This year’s concert is about gathering—even if it’s your first time with us—and creating memories through melodies, shared laughter, and the unique magic that only live orchestral music can bring. To celebrate Hanukkah, we have the upbeat Dances in Freygish by Israeli-American composer Avner Finberg. Bring your loved ones, your festive spirit, and your open hearts, and let’s celebrate together.”

Before the main concert, enjoy a pre-concert performance by the Youth Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, under the direction of Margaret Matthews & Melissa Moore, in the upper lobby — perfect for settling in with the holiday spirit.

Immediately following the concert, you are invited to the OSFL’s festive annual fundraiser dinner, Afterglow. This elegant post-concert event is a lovely way to continue the evening together, support OSFL’s mission, and embrace the spirit of giving and community. Please kindly RSVP at OSFL.org by December 4.

Tickets for children under 18 are free with the purchase of at least one adult ticket, making this an ideal holiday outing for the whole family. Be sure to get your tickets before they sell out — holiday seats go fast!
