Electronic producer Daniel Howland, most commonly known as SVDDEN DEATH, performed back to back shows at Red Rocks on November 13 and 14. The renowned artist brought his Valley of Darkness to Colorado to help close out the last few shows of the Red Rocks season.

SVDDEN DEATH curated two very different sets for each night of his performances. Night one he played a VOYD set which is an iconic dark project he has been working on for the past few years. Daniel gets especially scary during his VOYD productions. He wears a deer skull mask and even flys in the air in a harness.

Outsiders looking in might be spooked out by this sighting but VOYD fans know how special these sets truly are. His on-stage antics, unnerving visuals, and mind-blowing mash-ups are what draws his audience in.
The openers night one consisted of Executioner, Mythm, Witching Hour, Simula, and Alice Glass. It was a stacked night of music touching on numerous genres giving the crowd a little bit of everything.

When Daniel took over the stage he put on his VOYD mask setting the eerie tension of the night. He played numerous tracks off of his summer album release VOYD Vol. 2.5 (PART III). His experimental sound is something that is unmatched in this scene. He is able to make dubstep toe the line between chilling and heavy.
VOYD’s trippy visuals coupled with the countless lasers made this performance even that much more epic. He of course played a remix of his most popular track “Behemoth” that without a doubt gets the audience pumped up every single time. The theatrics and pure cinema that go into a VOYD set are incredibly impressive.

NIGHT 2
For night two, Daniel performed a SVDDEN DEATH set. The openers for the second round of Valley of Darkness were STVG, Bejalvin, Prosecute, Nimda, and Zomboy. All opening acts were extreme heavy hitters and kept the night amplified with each performance.

When doors opened on November 14 early arrived fans got to see Daniel perform his Deadroom project which consists of a house set from him. Daniel’s creativity is always flourishing and everyone can see that in his dedication to his work.
When closing out Red Rocks SVDDEN DEATH played countless unreleased tracks. Even some he admitted to working on during his travels to the famous venue earlier that day.

SVDDEN DEATH also brought out many other artists for a surprise b2b at the end of the show. Some of which included Funtcase, Mad Dubz, and MVRDA. He also invited NIMDA and YVM3 on the stage. The collabs and screaming metal were wild to witness. Riddim fans were blown away that night.

Overall, Daniel’s shows always leave the audience wanting more. He is a master at his craft.
In today’s day and age everybody wants to be like somebody else or mimic certain sounds. The VOYD project is the very opposite of that. His sound is so particular and his presence is considered frightening to some that it actually draws people away from him. It’s artists like this though who push the envelope that can have the greatest impact in the scene. Daniel lives by being so outrageous enough to be disliked that he actually has built his own corner in the EDM world. A lot of people may not understand it but one thing is for sure, they keep coming back for more.

And just like that the Red Rocks season has come to an end. Spring shows are already filing up though so make sure to check on tickets here.
