The Halloween Rave: A Budding EDM Scene Emerges in Saranac Lake

The Dewey Dubs Halloween Rave made a successful return on Saturday, November 1 for its second year at The Garagery, an event space and bar in Saranac Lake.

Throughout the night, over 200 people found themselves dancing to a diverse range of electronic music. They experienced everything from relaxed house beats to driving dubstep, all while sporting their best and weirdest Halloween costumes. The Halloween Rave, one of five annual raves hosted by the Dewey Dubs music organization, received sponsorship from Elevate ADK.

The Halloween Rave boasted six local North Country DJs including just ben, YNOT!, Shamplane, Parker, Ryan, and RAFA — all bringing unique elements to a complex soundscape.

Starting with some light electronic house, Parker and just ben created an inviting atmosphere for people to warm up their dancing legs. As smoke and lights descended on the scene, the tone shifted toward heavier bass and deeper riddim, securing complete control over the people as they thrashed to the beat. Lasers sliced through the smoke to create layered spatial visuals, powered by Jorge Estrada from Summit Sound and Tanner Stanley from TanStan Entertainment.

As the night progressed and the music held its trance over the people, just ben plugged in his USB and captivated the audience with his headlining set. After just ben, the atmosphere transitioned into a mysterious and jungle-like soundscape, and the crowd settled into the rhythm of RAFA’s expertly arranged set. For the final set, Ryan appeared on stage in full wizard garb, accompanied by YNOT!, and rounded off the night with an introspective set that spliced beats and genres with nuance.

Walking through The Garagery was like being dropped into an alternate universe. Hundreds of multicolored lasers cut through the smoky space and framed the sea of costumed faces: aliens, sea slugs, Surf’s Up penguins, Loraxes, and more. Ravers young and old came out to enjoy an eclectic array of music, great company, and incredible North Country vibes.

One of the unique aspects of this local rave is its intimate energy: the DJs and crowd feed off one another’s energy, co-creating an interactive space thanks to the small stage and close quarters. Several members of the crowd noted the curated flow of sets across the night. The complex musical atmosphere fills the chest with rumbling walls of sound — an experience growing in popularity within the region, especially in community hubs of Saranac Lake and Plattsburgh.

The Halloween Rave’s evening of high spirits will have to last four months until the next rave on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Dewey Dubs will host The Carnival Rave as part of Saranac Lake’s 128th annual Winter Carnival celebration. Amid a backdrop of snowy sidewalks and an ice palace, ravers will converge at The Garagery to enjoy an evolving selection of visuals, lights, and dubstep.

Proceeds from all the raves fund Dewey Dubs Music Festival — the largest North Country electronic music festival of the year – on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Patrons will experience a full-day affair of activities and side quests, a quality lineup of local DJs, interactive art, free ice cream, guided mountain bike rides, juggling clinics, and so much more — all for free.
